ementoring
What is ementoring? And how is it different to other mentoring programmes?
Mentoring gives young people the chance to have one-to-one support, advice and guidance from a volunteer who is independent from their ordinary life. Ementoring allows mentors and mentees to keep in touch by having conversations online, through a website.
The mentoring relationship is facilitated by a safe and stimulating web-based environment that allows mentors and mentees to:
• Post messages
• Share information
• Discuss news items
• Access educational and career resources
Why choose ementoring?
Many people find it difficult to have a face-to-face mentoring relationship. It might be that your mentoring partner lives far away, or that one or both of you are too busy for regular meetings. With an online mentor, you can log on whenever you like, and choose when and how often you get in touch with each other.
Why not just use email?
Good question. There are many ementoring schemes which will encourage mentors and mentees to swap email addresses and communicate via email. However, by using an online portal you get loads of other benefits alongside the mentoring.
Get your questions answered! If your mentor doesn’t know the answer to something, why not leave a comment on an article in our library? There’s a bank of other mentors and experts just waiting to help you out.
Build your skills. If you sign up for ementoring, you can also work through a programme of activities designed to help you build your skills and confidence. You can work through these activities with the help of your mentor.
Find out more! Want to learn about marine biology? Or see what courses you need to become a rocket scientist? If your mentor doesn't have the answer, the careers library can give you all of the help you need.
Be safe! By using a secure website, The Brightside Trust can monitor relationships to make sure that all mentors and mentees stay safe online.
